CONTINUUM

Joanne Hiscox and Lucy Paradise, long time residents of and artists in Sedona, have teamed up to create "Continuum". Joanne and Lucy are proud to announce that "Continuum" has been named a City of Sedona, Art and Cultural Commission Schnebly Hill Road Roundabout Finalist. Final selection will take place in 2013.

For Joanne and Lucy, creating a beautiful Art Mosaic only made sense. What better way to visually express the "pieces" that formed Sedona (her Ancients, her Ancestors, what she is today and where she is headed) than through a mosaic, whose subtle images tell the tale. The 8-sided, 10 panel mosaic, 11 feet high and 12 feet in diameter, embraces the diversity of cultural influences that helped form Sedona. The mixed medium Mosaic also provides a diversity of art medium within Sedona's Roundabout Public Art program.

JoLucyRAB "Continuum" celebrates Sedona's natural grandeur while documenting those who have and will pass through. It takes us on a journey, reminding us of a rich heritage and a bright future. Entering Sedona from the south, you encounter the largest panel, the Red Rock beauty that is Sedona. As you move to the right, short panels 1 and 2 celebrate those who came before, the "Ancients" (3 contemporary versions of Anasazi Tusayan White Ware artwork)

Panels 3 and 4 celebrate the "Ancestors". The 3-dimensional old barbed wire fence celebrates Sedona's Pioneer, Ranching, Cowboy and Western Film eras. The Apple Basket is reminiscent of the early settlers who planted orchards and farmed in Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon.

Panels 6, 7 and 8 depict the Sedona of today. The 3-dimensional, hiking trail cairn marks the entrance to all of Sedona's great outdoor activities. The "ARTS" plant depicts Sedona's growing visual, performing and healing arts communities. The large Ammonite fossil represents Sedona's spiritual and metaphysical side. The tranquility of these 3 panels calls forth images of self-discovery and renewal.

Back at the starting point, we now understand that Sedona has been many things to many people. As the "Continuum" progresses, no one knows what Sedona will be to those who come next. However, we do know that, as in the past, Sedona's natural beauty will remain, untouched and, as always, inspirational.
